ADB – Japan Scholarship Program | Study in New Zealand with Full Funding

Overview

The Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP) was launched in April 1988 through funding provided by the Government of Japan. Its primary goal is to support qualified individuals from ADB’s developing member countries in pursuing postgraduate education in fields such as economics, management, science and technology, and other disciplines tied to development. The program partners with academic institutions throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Graduates of this program are expected to return home equipped with advanced skills to support the social and economic growth of their countries.

At the University of Auckland, the scholarship applies to the following programs:

Master of Public Health
Master of Science (Environmental Science)
Master of Arts (Development Studies)
Master of International Business
Master’s programs in Engineering

Scholarship Benefits

Recipients of the ADB–JSP scholarship will receive:

Full tuition coverage at the University of Auckland
Round-trip airfare between the scholar’s home country and Auckland, New Zealand
A living allowance to cover basic expenses in Auckland
Medical and health insurance while in New Zealand
Return airfare to the home country upon program completion
A special allowance for thesis preparation may be provided for research-focused scholars

Note: The scholarship does not cover dependents.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be a national of an ADB borrowing member. A full list is available at the ADB - Japan Scholarship Programme.
Have received an offer of admission to an approved master’s program at a designated institution
Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent with strong academic performance
Possess a minimum of two years full-time professional work experience acquired after completing a university degree
Demonstrate proficiency in English (both spoken and written)
Be under 35 years old at the time of application (for senior-level or managerial programs, the limit may be extended to 45 years)
Be in good physical and mental health
Commit to returning to their home country after finishing the program

Not eligible:

ADB employees (including Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, staff, consultants) and their relatives
Applicants working at or applying to the institution where they are currently employed
Individuals living or working outside their home country
Candidates already enrolled in or who have completed a graduate degree
Applicants seeking support for undergraduate studies, short-term courses, distance learning, conferences, thesis-only research, or training workshops

Offer of admission letter from the University of Auckland
Academic transcripts and degree certificates
Certificate of Employment from current or previous employer
Company-issued Income Certificate
Family Income Certificate (must reflect income of parents or spouse)
Valid passport copy
Proof of English proficiency (IELTS test results)
